One of the most confusing decisions that one has to make when entering a web hosting business is how to choose which platform they will use to host sites. There are a few options available, but the most commonly used formats are Linux and Windows web hosts.

There is a plethora of generators and data that relates to web hosting, but the bulk of it is based on biased writing and at times is written by Windows or Linux employees themselves. Through a few hours of search engine based research, it becomes apparent that there really isn’t a more worthy or beneficial platform to use.

Either way you choose Linux or windows will not have as much of an impact on your company as the other decisions you will need to make. The Microsoft Company formulated and possesses the rights to the Windows operating System.

Linux on the other hand is an unrestricted source and is often provided at a very cheap, if not free, rate.

To Run a Windows hosting program it will be more costly then Linux. In the end, through the start up cost to the running and execution costs, both platforms work out to be almost identical in price.

Both Linux and windows platforms in the end work out to be almost the same price to run.

Often times, this is only due to the fact that their personal computer runs on Windows, so they tend to be familiar with the company.

A lot of people prefer the windows server simply because they are family with the windows operating system. This is a general opinion and is not the truth by any means.

The connection to your Internet account will likely be via ftp or a control panel, and both Linux and windows servers have these available. The difference between Windows and Linux Platforms is the ftp instructions are slightly different.

These instructions are different using Linux and sometimes lead to an error with the computer. While this can be a problem at times, it happens too infrequently to make a major difference.

The stability and reliability of both programs has been the subject of countless debates in recent years.

Windows has had a major discredit against it and deemed it unsafe, due to how many faults have been found. Because Windows is available in just about every household, more people have investigated windows to see what faults they could find.

Since Linux is not as popular as windows it has had less errors reported then the windows Platform. Linux being the most common host has a higher threat of viruses and hacks recorded. It doesn’t matter which one is safer or reliable.

The stability of your hosting program while rely mostly on the abilities and security provided by the technical executives employed by your web hosting company. Windows and Linux platforms are almost the same in costs and both have security problems.

If you have a major concern when it comes to security, then it is most important for you ensure that your hosting firm is experienced and respected throughout the Internet community.

Well, if you want the truth, listen to the experts, not the media consultants!

    1. Microsoft Corporation runs MSN.com and MSNMessenger, and all web traffic, through 15,000 leased Akamai Linux servers.

    2. All internal servers, firewalls, routers, on the entire Microsoft network, run Linux.

Microsoft Server can’t do the jobs required of them. Look at Hotmail, that MS owned since 1997 that has run Linux and BSD servers, even though MS Management spent millions trying to replace them! (It takes some dozen MS Servers to replace a single BSD or Linux server)

Major reasons why BSD and Linux rule the entire Server world is that they are parallel processing, concurrent process, systems. Microsoft is a consecutive executing system.

My analogy is that Heathrow Airport is like BSD or Linux in the area of security, with 256 parallel security entry gates vs. any USA airport, with one or two, and long lines at them. Waiting for your turn turns flying into a two or three hour wait just to get to the gate!

I take exception to the Author in the area of Security through Obscurity, which has NEVER worked, and results in total failure due to exploits that aren’t countered.

I also fault the author for the silly view that Mac, BSD, or Linux are safe by having a smaller user base. This total fabrication neglects the fact that over 78% of ALL servers run them!

The million Microsoft virus/malware/exploits ONLY affect Microsoft systems! So, why don’t all the media report them as what they are, Microsoft Virus, malware exploits?

Follow the advertising money… Why isn’t the TRUTH reported about Linux, BSD being up to 200 Times faster than Microsoft on any hardware, and the superior, secure, multi-user, multi processing, UNIX or POSIX environment?

Again, follow the money trail, and who is corrupted by their advertisers!

I prefer SimplyMepis, Linux Mint, Ubuntu! FREE and OPEN, with over 28,000 applications!
